ELIZABETH PORTER NBCT, M. ED

 

National Board Certified Language Teacher, World Languages Curriculum Specialist, Linguist,

Published Author, Owner and Director of Bon Voyage World Languages Academy, TED Talk

 

 

Elizabeth Porter is a National Board Certified French teacher (EAYA/WLOE) with a master’s degree in
Elementary Education and a Bachelor’s in French and Linguistics. Elizabeth also holds a French Degree in
called a DEUG Français Langue Étrangère (FLE) from the Université de Caen in Normandy, France.


Elizabeth began her career teaching elementary and middle school English in Normandy France, then
returned to the United States in 2002 where she taught for three years at the French Immersion School
of Washington. Elizabeth then taught high school French and was the World Languages Curriculum
Specialist in Central Kitsap School District. She opened Bon Voyage World Languages Academy in 2016.
Elizabeth also travels extensively with students and offers multiple travel programs at Bon Voyage.


Elizabeth is the author of Pathways to Language Fluency: Changing How We Think About Language in
the United States, which is an explanation of her unique method Language with the Five Senses and her
journey to create the method. She has also written a series of French workbooks and is currently
working on a book about travel with students and Global Citizenship Education. Elizabeth is a dynamic
teacher who is passionate about language, how the brain naturally acquires language, and language advocacy.

Language with the Five Senses


Language is not merely words and grammatical structures but how humans interact with each other and
the world around them. Human interaction is essential for acquiring language and a person must feel
and experience the language with all of the senses to build language pathways in the brain.

 

This workshop includes:


- An overview and history of the method/how it was created.
- A detailed explanation of the process, with practical activities for each step
- Workshop includes lesson plans and activities that go through an entire lesson for all of the steps
- Adaptations for use of technology in the classroom - Connections to culture and how to bring authentic situations into the classroom
- Integration of comprehensible input and chunking into your lessons
- Project based assessment showing practical application of the language.
- An overview of different resources available.


Global Citizenship Education in the Classroom


Global Citizenship Education can be integrated into home life or into any classroom. GCED helps
students understand that they are part of a greater world and citizens of humanity. GCED is meant to
help us understand why we think the way we do and explore culture shapes our thinking as we relate to
others in the world.


This workshop includes:


- Explanation and overview of Global Citizenship Education as defined by the UNESCO.
- Overview of the Global Citizenship Standards and Competencies set forth by the UNESCO
- Practical and engaging activities for the classroom that teach GCE
