Composition Contests University and high school students are encouraged to participate in the AATSP-GA composition contests held
each year. Students are given two topics from which to choose a theme for an essay that must be written in the length of an
hour. The themes for writing and the rubrics by which the writing is judged are created for each level of ability. Students who participate
each year during their academic career receive valuable feedback regarding their progress. The contest, generally
held in March, also affords an excellent opportunity for AP students to practice writing an essay on demand, and
to receive rapid feedback.

National Spanish
Exam
Members of AATSP may enter their students in the National Spanish Exam. In 2009 over 115,000 students nationwide
took the NSE. At this time it is the most widely used test of Spanish in the United States. The National Association of Secondary
Principals has approved the NSE and has placed this program on the NASSP National Advisory List of contests and activities.
The NSE exam is now exclusively administered online. See our page on the National Spanish Exam for
more details. Further questions should be directed to Shirley Fernández, the NSE-GA coordinator and her contact information
is given on the AATSP-GA Board page.

Immersion Camp
Another enriching activity for students of AATSP members is
the annual Immersion Camp. This camp is for high school students enrolled in Spanish II or higher who want to experience a
weekend totally immersed in the target language. Fun workshops are planned for campers to attend, such as cooking, dancing,
singing and sports. It is a great way to meet students from around the state that are excited about learning Spanish. Teachers
are encouraged to participate as "family leaders", dorm chaperones, and activity leaders. Stay tuned to this site
for updates on this year's immersion camp. Contact information is listed on the AATSP-GA Board page and in the most current
edition of Al Día. General camp information for both students and teachers can be found on this website on the
Spanish Immersion Camp page.
